Honda has officially released the new Insight.Costing over ,000; the new Prius is a couple of grand more than the new kid on the block; the Insight. The lower MSRP earns the 2010 Insight the title of most affordable hybrid in the U.S.

A great feature on the new Insight is an ECO assist that will help educate the driver to become more efficient.The ECO socring helps the drive to have a system that allows for the best fuel economy, which is related back to the operator in the form of a miles per gallon readout.The integrated motor assist helps out the puny hybrid engine by giving it a horepower boost via and electric motor. This new technology further reduces weight, saves on manufacturering costs, and adds to the overall cabin space. Variable Valve Technology is used in the Insight motor which also helps perfomance. Features included on some Insight models are: alloy wheels, cruise control, 6 speaker audio with USB interface, steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, Stability Assist, and a satellite navigation system with voice recognition. The Insight and the Prius are clear competitors but Honda is determined to knock Toyota out of the competitive market to become the hybrid leader.

On the other side of the coin, the Toyota Prius has a 160 horsepower 1.8 liter motor has three sttings for operation. These 3 modes are the Power Mode which increases the performance of the Prius, the ECO mode which makes fuel economy the #1 proirity, and finally a EV mode which stands for Electric Vehicle.Toyota has a new Smart Collision system called the PCS which is available on the new Prius.Adaptive Cruise Control uses a laser to keep the same distance between your car and the car infront of you, and the Prius will automatically apply brakes if needed. Toyota has added some buttons to the wheel to make the driving experience a bit more safe.

When it comes to price the Insight is hands down the winner, but the gas mileage rating is another story altogether.Recent fuel economy test give the Honda Insight a rating of 41 MPG; while the Toyota Prius ranks at an impressive 46 MPG. So, if you commute 20,000 miles per year (and gas costs .50 a gallon), owning the Honda would cost 19 in gas per year and owning a Prius would cost 86 per year. So say you shell out that higher price for the Prius, yes you save 53 gallons of gas per year, but it will take 27 years of driving to recover that money via gas savings.Yes the Prius gets much better fuel economy, but the low starting price of the Insight more than makes up for that difference!

More cash is something we are all in need of in these challenging times, should we not try to save it anyway we can. You may agree with me, filling your car with gas is one of the greatest expense we all have weekly. Depending on how far you travel or the type of car you drive, you may be spending over $200 weeky just in gas.
