Seventh Plein Air Event, Augusta, Missouri

Every spring, at the end of April, Defiance, Missouri, in Historic Missouri Wine Country, welcome artisians from Missouri and the nearby states to the Plein Air Event in Augusta.   Artists will be completing their craft in the heritage of Plein Air (outdoors), capturing the nuances of natural light in their performance.  This year artisians will begin arriving on April 22nd and will be discovered painting through May 2nd.

Tourist have always been attracted to the historic sites and scenic views, and now the artists have discovered not only the beauty waiting to be captured on their canvases, but also have experienced the gracious welcome of the people.  Discover a beautiful scene and you will likely find an artist.  Stop at one of the sponsors and observe the artist at work and join in the experience of judging and awards.  You might want to purchase a item of artwork to remember the day.

Judging, awards, sale & auction are conducted on the last day, Saturday, May 2nd.  A sum of approximately $6000 shall be awarded in prizes.  Winning artwork may be sold at auction and artisians will be showing/selling art work all day.

Everyone is invited to tour the area, meet the artists, experience a gorgeous day, and even purchase a piece of artwork for your collection.  An excellent northeast Missouri vacation getaway. Proceeds from this event sponsored by the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce are used to fund the Plein Air Scholarship for Augusta area students.

Welcome spring in Historic Missouri Wine Country with a visit to the quaint towns of Augusta and Defiance and check out the Missouri travel guide.  On each day between April 22nd to May 2nd, you are likely to find one or more artists anywhere you encounter one of our incredible views.  Approximately one hundred artists from Missouri and the nearby states are expected to be participating in the 7th Annual Augusta Plein Air Art Event.

You may want to sip some wine, you may want to enjoy a lunch, or you may choose to tour the shops.  You are certain to get a chance to watch and wonder at the craft of a visiting artist.  Some of the businesses will be hosting an event for the artists, during which they will be painting at that business and offering their art for purchase.  It is indeed a unique opportunity to watch the work from conception to completion and meet the artist as well.

The last sale on May 2nd will be held at the American Legion in Augusta.  This sale provides a wonderful opportunity to acquire high quality art from the artists directly.

Proceeds from this event hosted by the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce are dedicated to underwrite the Plein Air Scholarship for Augusta area students.
