A number of young people are trying it for the first time and knocking it back without bothering about it’s alcohol content. Learning about Absinthe proof?
A blend of herbs along with wormwood (artemisia absinthium), aniseed and fennel is used in the manufacturing of Absinthe. It is commonly known as the Green Fairy, La Fee Verte, because of the characteristic emerald green coloring of classic verte styles of Absinthe.
According to the Ritual Absinthe is generally drunk diluted with iced water. When water is dripped over a sugar lump on a slotted spoon and into the Absinthe the louche effect is visible.
The wormwood was used in the preparation of Absinthe due to which it was banned in the early 1900s. Dr Valentin Magnan tested worwmood on guinea pigs in 1845 and found that a guinea pig given wormwood oilhad convulsions, whereas, a guinea pig given alcohol just got drunk. The chemical thujone was found to be far more dangerous than ethanol (alcohol) from the tests done by Magnan. According to him and others in the medical profession thujone was psychoactive and caused psychedelic effects. Therefore many countries illegalled Absinthe.
The activities of a thujone molecule and THC from the drug cannabis are same because their structures are similar.
People have now understood that all these claims are inaccurate and false. There is no resemblance between thujone and THC. Research prove that Absinthe contains very small amounts of thujone which is not harmful. A person dies of alcohol poisoning before feeling any effects from thujone if consumed Absinthe in decent quantity!
Absinthe is a highly alcoholic drink and will get a person drunk quite quickly.
