Kitchen Cabinet Refacing Review

Posted: February 6th, 2010 | Category: Home Based Business

Before you go looking for kitchen cabinet refacing companies take a few minutes to read through this brief but very informative article. My intention here is to discuss some pretty important issues and help you make an informed decision about redoing your kitchen cabinets.

As you search through the web you will come across a number of people claiming to be experts on this subject matter but mixing all that different advise can lead to a disastrous output. Let me quickly walk you through the following key points.

What is Kitchen cabinet refacing?

This is when kitchen cabinets that are aged are revamped by adding a new coating such as veneer, thermo-foil or laminate. Most often this involves only changing the door fronts and drawer from but not the whole cabinets.  What you should keep in mind is that this is a faster process than doing kitchen remodeling.

When compared to buying new cabinets, refacing is way cheaper. So in essence, it is the most efficient, affordable and hassle-free way to boost your kitchen’s look and feel.

Let us briefly look at some of the different coating that is used

The Use Of Laminate

Laminate is primarily made of plastic film or thin sheet formed from resins such as polyethylene and polypropylene. This is arguably the cheapest material to usebut it is not as resistant in wear and tear. However, it works well in heat oil resistance and can seal heat perfectly.

Defining Thermofoil

This is the latest offering in cabinetry. It is basically a new wood-like refacing material.  Sometimes referred to as Vinyl or RTF it comes as quite a thick vinyl film, which is bonded tightly on a warp-resistant engineered wood core.

Understanding Wood Veneer

This is a thin slice of wood that is cut from a log with a slicing, peeling, or sawing machine. If you are looking for a nice grain then this is the right material to consider. There are many varieties of this feature. Ideally I recommend that you consult an export before making any decision on these.
