Holidaying at home this year?

Posted: January 26th, 2010 | Category: Insurance

Holiday plans are ever changing this year not only for Brits but for everyone who intends to take one as the recession is still hitting hard. The pound has taken a giant leap backwards over the past year or so which in turn means that the big family trip to America or the small break to Europe has had to be cancelled. Britain itself is becoming a huge holiday destination this year for the British population due to the recession.

The worst thing about the pound is that it is not only suffering against the Euro heavily this year but also the dollar although this has started to pick up again it really won’t make a difference until the world comes out of the recession and slowly starts to build up to the way it was. Of course what everyone needs when going either to Europe or the USA or in fact anywhere is travel insurance and this is equally as important even when holidaying in Britain.

What can be seen as a major benefit of holidaying in Britain is the fact that you will not need to take out medical insurance as you are protected through the NHS within the UK. Of course nobody expects something to go wrong on or before a holiday but sometimes it does which is why having travel insurance will protect you from any booking fees or anything along those lines that you would not usually be able to get back.

Why is insurance even worth the cash? Getting insurance for here in the UK is usually going to be a lot cheaper than having to get insurance for anywhere else in the world. Insurance does a lot more than just cover you against any cancellations. Many travel insurance policies available will actually protect you from loss of personal items which is necessary as the problem does just not go away simply because you are sticking to the UK. Be careful that your home insurance doesn’t already cover you from loss of possessions away from home though or you will be paying for the same thing twice.

So whether it’s Spain, Mexico, (or not) USA or Britain having insurance is bound to benefit you if something that is not in the plan crops up.
