Ford’s Smart Hybrid Car – The Fusion

Posted: November 14th, 2009 | Category: Automotive

There has been a gaping hole in the mid-sized car segment from Ford with the loss of the Taurus a few years back.People are really starting to notice the new Hybrid power plant modification in the Fusion.  Ford officially released the Fusion Hybrid recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2008.  What makes this Ford so special is the excellent in-town gas mileage that the hybrid can get.Driving the Fusion Hybrid around town will net you over 40 miles per gallon which far outshines the Camry and even the fuel efficient civic hybrid.Without any help from the internal combustion engine, the electric engine can push the Fusion up to 47 MPH.It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.

The Ford.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge. The driver is innundated with info from the dual data monitors next to the gauge cluster. The driver can see the amount of gasoline and the amount of electric charge left in the batteris through the 1st info screen. The 2nd display shows the vehicle tachometer and also tells which mode the Fusion is running in; full electric or hybrid. The 3rd monitor shows motor and batter power. Finally, the last screen shows data in power to the wheels and additional power consumption. All display screens show fuel efficiency, MPG record, voyage account, and changes in coolant temps.Best fuel economy can be gauged through real time MPG information showing the driver which driving style is best.

The navigation system also houses the Hybrid Energy Flow Display.A couple of different things will be displayed like the charge of the car, the various hybrid power systems, the regenerative braking, and the boost.

Ford not only equipped the Fusion with an environmentally friendly drivetrain; they also used post-industrial yarns which are recycled into the seats of the Fusion Hybrid.  After watching Toyota and Honda sell millions of hybrid vehicles; Ford has finally came out with a fuel efficient car that will appeal to the masses.
