As you are probably already aware, the game of chess is played between two people. In chess you take turns when moving. One player will use all the white game pieces, and the other player will then use all of the black game pieces. The goal of the game is to capture the other teams king chess piece.
The first piece to look at is the bishop. The bishop can only move in diagonal lines. The advantage of the bishop is that is can move as many squares as you like.
The rook chess piece is also known as the castle. You can move the rook either vertically or horizontally. As with the bishop, there is no limit to how many number of squares the rook can be moved.
The queen is considered by many to be the most powerful game piece in the world of chess. This is probably because the options with the queen game piece are practically limitless. You can move in any direction you choose with the queen game piece whether that be diagonally, vertically or horizontally, and you may also move the queen any number of squares that you would like.
As with the queen game piece, the king game piece can also be moved in any direction. However, the king game piece is somewhat limited as it can only be moved one square at a time.
The knight often look like a horse. It also has an unusually move. This pattern is somewhat difficult to explain, but some say that it can best be described as making an L-shape.Addtionally, the knight is also allowed to jump other pieces while it moves.
Lastly, there is the pawn.Pawns are the weakest pieces but you get a lot of them.Pawns are only allowed to move forward in a straight line but can capture other pieces at a diagonal.
I wish you the best of luck, and I hope that you enjoy playing chess for many more years to come!
