Are You Brave Enough to take a trip on the Titanic Memorial Cruise in 2012?
Posted: November 26th, 2009 | Category: Travel and LeisureIt will soon be the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
It seems absolutely unbelievable that it is nearly 100 years ago since this awful event happened.
As we all know the Titanic was a magnificent vessel for its time, but I wonder if you know how much it would have cost you to travel on this sea vessel back in 1912?
If you were fortunate enough to be a First-Class passenger, for one of their parlour suites you would have paid approximately 4,350 US Dollars. It seems unbelievable but in today’s money this equates to about 50,000 US Dollars. If you had a bit more cash, you could have booked one of their most expensive rooms and in today’s money this would have been equivalent to 80,000 US Dollars.
Even though the First-Class passengers had already paid out a lot of money for their ticket, they still had to pay extra money if they wanted to participate in any activities, for example a game of squash was approximatly 50c and a swim was about 25c.
The third-class passenger’s travel ticket cost them 35 US Dollars, which in today’s money would be equivalent to approximately 620 US Dollars. There were sometimes as many as 10 people per room, so at times the rooms had to be divided between males and females, so families were often split.
The Titanic had its own newspaper publication which was called the Atlantic Daily Bulletin. This was prepared daily on the ship and as well as news articles and advertisements, it had information such as the daily menu, latest stock prices, society gossip and even horse-racing results.
There is now going to be a Titanic Memorial Cruise due to set sail on April 8th 2012.
Personally speaking I cannot think of anything worse and would much prefer to set out on a Galapagos Cruise. Imagine sailing around the beautiful Galapagos Islands and seeing all the beautiful and wondrous things. Surely this has got to be more appealing than following the same route of the doomed Titanic voyage?
