A Standard Wedding Reception Progam Outlined

Posted: November 20th, 2009 | Category: Reference and Education

One of the most important and cherished events of your life is going to be your wedding, so it’s safe to assume the event will be quite special and extravagant.  This includes everything, right down to the arrangements for the wedding reception.

If you’re getting ready to plan a reception, here’s a look at how a standard one usually goes.

Normally the reception begins within 15 minutes of the couple exiting the auditorium.  After arrival guests are greeted and seated. This is the plan that is usually taken, in case you decide to go with a seating plan. Otherwise guests can sit with whoever they want.

Soon after, ensure that the parents and sponsors are present at the head table.

Once most people are seated, ask that the entourage members, except the primary sponsors and parents, assemble around the receiving area.  They must assemble at the same time. The flower girls are the first called, then the ring bearers, then the secondary sponsors, next the groomsmen accompanying the bridesmaids, and finally, the best man, coming with the maid of honor.

Next, the newlyweds make their celebratory entrance, accompanied by party favors like confetti or bubbles.

After the couple enters, they should give recognition to the parents and main sponsors, letting them get up and signal with a wave. After this, ask the bride and groom to go towards the cake, for the cake cutting ceremony.  Next comes the formal toast with glasses of bubbly, with perhaps a dove release too.Afterward, the maid of honor leads a prayer of thanks. After this comes the meal, in which the guests are called for pictures with the bride and groom.  Next, they head to the buffet table, and assist. There are multiple types of autumn wedding cakes.

The wedding singer starts performing once all the guest have ate their meal and are once again seated.    If there is an audio-visual presentation, it comes next.

After this, the best man does a grand toast, and then come words from well-wishers for the couple.  Only a few of these should be allowed, otherwise it will become too busy. The Bride’s Father then dances with her, and then the Bride has her first dance with her new husband.   Other dances, if done, can come after this.

Near the end of the event comes the bouquet-tossing ceremony, in which the bride tosses a bouquet of flowers to the single ladies; there is also a garter ceremony, in which the groom shoots the bride’s garter to the single men. Dont ever forget unique wedding favor or western wedding favors!

There are many ways to do this event.  Some wedding receptions don’t have live performers, for instance, and some incorporate a dance in which the groom’s mother dances with her son.  But by following this standard program as much as possible, veering only where you’ve made a couple of customizations, you can be sure that your reception will be close enough to traditional that nobody will complain, yet original enough that nobody will get bored.
